Pig Pickin

This evening we went to Lee County Virginia for the 22nd Annual Pig Pickin. Our dear friend Kristen grew up in Lee County and this is an annual event that her family puts on every fall. On Friday they dig a big hole and build a BIG FIRE in the hole. Then they season a bunch of meat and wrap it in foil. They cover the fire/hot coals with a big piece of metal. Next they put in the meat followed by another piece of metal and they bury the whole thing. The meat cooks all night and on Saturday they dig it up.

Diggin up the meat
Meat in the hole That's a bunch of meat!

Then we all bring side dishes and we eat the amazing meat and the wonderful side and desserts. This year they had ham, fresh pork, beef, turkey, and fresh goat. It was all amazingly delicious!!!

Karrise and Finley enjoyed it.

As you can see Karisse and Finley both loved the food and displayed it proudly!
(look closely at the faces)

Kristen and Teddy were there, of course, and our friends Andrew, Crystal and Finley came in from Memphis. Andrew, Crystal and Finley met us at our house and we all squeezed into our van and rode up together. It was sooo much fun.

Karisse and Finley were soooo excited to see each other!! (as were their parents) They miss each other a lot!

After we eat they always have line dancing and Square dancing. The caller teachers everyone how to do the dances and it is pretty fun. Karisse and Finley thought they were awesome dancers. They were fun to watch.

Callie just hung out and looked cute!!
